The enclosure is perhaps the most important melodic device in jazz. Made famous in the bebop era by Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Dizzy Gillespie, and others, the enclosure has evolved into part of the language of jazz ever since.
But, it can be a little tricky to learn to navigate. In this workshop, we'll work through approaches and enclosures step-by-step, playing them together to improvise over a chord progression. Then, you'll have a chance to play for me and get some personalized feedback.
